The forerunner of BODYPUMP and the other Les Mills programs, BODYATTACK® traces its origins back to the aerobics boom of the late 1970s. The program was invented by New Zealand club owner Phillip Mills in 1980 under the original name of ‘Jazzergetics’ with the aim of attracting large numbers of fitness enthusiasts into the aerobic studio.
It was an objective that Mills achieved with almost overwhelming success. The fiercely energetic workout was an immediate hit in his native New Zealand, filling studios and encouraging him to develop more programs based on the hour-long, prechoreographed model.
